A Creative Retreat in Rwanda
for women ready to reconnect with their art, their spirit, and the wild.
February 2027
You are invited to
An exclusive creative journey through Rwanda, one of Africa’s most peaceful and welcoming countries.
7 nights | Kigali, Lake Muhazi & Akagera National Park |
Small group of 8 | Safari & Cultural Experiences | All-inclusive
This isn’t an ordinary holiday.
It’s travel with heart and purpose,
a journey woven with art, history, music and dance.
Explore Africa’s wild beauty and encounter the Big Five,
all while feeling creatively inspired and cared for among like-minded women.
You’ll return with stories, sketches and a lighter heart.
"I needed to get back to Ró’s process and positive thinking again. I like how she thinks about life and the world so I knew I would enjoy it. I loved the adventure and camaraderie with creatives. "
Marita McGeady
The Creative Journey
Come with me, and see what happens when creativity meets adventure.
You’ll return home with more than a journal full of sketches and colour.
You’ll come back with renewed confidence, a stronger creative voice, and a deeper joy in your art and life.
The rhythm of Africa, the warmth of its people, the creative play of each day. It all stays with you. Long after you’ve left Rwanda’s red earth behind, you’ll carry its inspiration within you, lighting the way forward in your next chapter.
How we’ll CREATE TOGETHER
This retreat is for artists, creatives and anyone ready to reconnect with their creativity and perhaps a touch of adventure.
Instead of painting in oils, we’ll use journaling, sketching and reflection to deepen the experience of travel. You’ll learn new ways to see, feel and record the world around you.
I’ll guide you with creative sessions and daily prompts to bring focus, inspiration and flow. You can work with travel paints – watercolour, gouache or acrylic – and use your sketches, words and photos to create a visual story of your journey.
Capture striking photos as references for future paintings
Use dynamic design to bring drama and energy to your work
Sketch for value, shape and composition
Journal to process your experiences of Rwanda’s landscape, wildlife, history and renewal
Integrate creativity into daily life as a source of fulfilment and joy
Learn to find your own artistic voice and style
Use creativity as a tool for personal growth and deeper meaning

"The readings, the blessings, the genuine intention. The lessons, the mentoring, the friending, ... a gift, all of it ! Everything is incredibly well done, but this is what makes it more special than all the other retreats I've ever attended, so healing for all of us.
Everybody was shining in their own special way and that's all because of Ró"

Why Rwanda?
In recent years, I’ve spent time in Rwanda, meeting people, hearing their stories, and falling a little more in love with this remarkable country each time.
Practically speaking, everything works beautifully here. The food is fresh and safe, the people are warm and professional, and the accommodation is of international standards. It’s one of Africa’s most peaceful and welcoming countries.
When you come with me, I’ll bring you into the poetry of this place. I’ll help you see it through my eyes, feel the warmth of its people, and understand its layered history.
Drawing on my own blend of creativity, culture, personal growth and nurture, and on my love of poetry and history, to help you refill the well, rediscover your spark, and bring your creative life to the next level.

A Monument to Hope and Remembrance
Kigali Genocide Memorial – A Monument to Hope and Remembrance
Our visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial is a deeply moving and important part of the journey. This space honours the lives lost and stands as a powerful monument to resilience, reconciliation, and hope. Through stories, photographs, and quiet reflection, it offers us a profound understanding of Rwanda’s past and an inspiring glimpse of the compassion and unity that define its present. Ró will offer a short session to help ground us in this experience, creating space for reflection and connection.

Each evening, we’ll gather around the long table for beautiful 4 course dinners, crafted from local ingredients. Over slow meals and good wine, new friendships take root.

"It was an absolutely incredible experience that I shall treasure for ever. Everything Ró said on the can and much much more!! I had the most amazing adventures with total strangers who have become beautiful friends. If you have the opportunity to go on one of Roisin O’Farrells Art Retreats take it. They are life-changing!!"
Jane Aston
"I can honestly say that Róisín’s teaching has completely changed the direction of my life. She has given me the confidence I needed to just simply go for it. I am proud to now call myself an artist and I still can't quite believe how well things are going. The time she takes with people, her generosity to share, and her guidance. There are not many things I can say that have so clearly changed my life but her teaching and definitely have."
Andrea Mosey
"I personally had lost all my creative confidence and had so much fear and anxiety to get through. I can’t really begin to tell you how much it means for me to physically, emotionally and intellectually enjoy and engage in the creative process once again and finally be able to call myself an artist again. Love and gratitude."
Helen
Róisín is not just an artist. She has a special gift for caring and encouraging creative women and has decades of experience in giving workshops and teaching.
Committed and passionate about teaching, sharing, and living creativity, Róisin’s retreats are a down-to-earth, inclusive experience for creative women of all abilities, many of whom return year after year.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe? Will I be comfortable?
Absolutely. Rwanda is one of Africa’s most peaceful and welcoming countries, with a lower crime rate than many European cities. It has been stable and safe for over 30 years, and the areas we will visit, Kigali and Lake Muhazi, are secure, well established, and used to welcoming international guests.
Tourism is a key part of Rwanda’s growth, and visitors are met with warmth, care, and professionalism at every turn.
Health & Hygiene
Rwanda takes public health seriously. Cleanliness, hygiene, and food safety are excellent in the hotels and lodges we use. We also take every precaution for your well-being, including bottled water, fresh meals, modern transport, and trained local teams.
Bring any prescription medication you rely on, as pharmacies may not always stock your brand. Kigali has excellent hospitals, including King Faisal Hospital, and we have private transport available should anyone need care.
Vaccines & Malaria
Malaria:
Risk has dropped dramatically in recent years, but anti-malarials are still recommended. Your GP or travel clinic can advise. We will stay in air-conditioned or fan-cooled rooms with mosquito nets, and good repellent (30% DEET or higher) will do the rest.
Vaccines:
Routine vaccines should be up to date. Recommended: Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and a Tetanus booster if needed.
Yellow Fever is not required unless you are travelling from a country where it is present.
Rabies:
Risk is very low. We stay in hotels and lodges with good access to medical care, and no one leaves the vehicle during safari. The rabies vaccine is generally only for travellers working with animals or spending long periods in remote areas.
Please check with your medical practitioner or travel clinic for personal advice and the most up-to-date recommendations.
In Short
You will be in beautiful, peaceful surroundings, with good healthcare access, trusted guides, and thoughtful planning throughout. This is a journey built for joy, not stress.
Mobility & Comfort
The itinerary is designed to be nourishing, not demanding. My 88-year-old mum is joining us in 2026, which says it all. You can walk, kayak, or simply relax by the pool or book a massage. The only room requiring extra mobility is the Birdhouse, with a mezzanine bed and stairs. Everything else is easily accessible.
Visas & Travel
Visitors can obtain a visa on arrival at Kigali International Airport for around 50 USD. The process is quick and straightforward.
For flights, Brussels Airlines offers excellent connections from Europe to Kigali, with good service and schedules that suit most travellers.
Small Group, Deep Connection
Just eight or nine women, a small circle for real connection, laughter, and creative growth.
A Space with Soul
My retreats carry a soulful depth shaped by a life lived with both love and loss. They are non-judgmental, non-religious, and grounded in personal growth. Creativity becomes the bridge, a way to find healing, connection, and the courage to live fully.

I will carry these memories in my heart forever, treasure them and tend to them so that they remain forefront in my sense of knowing, that women from all over can come together and nurture and uplift each other, personally and creatively. And laugh a lot. My heart is full, and my world is larger today
Tammy Goodrich
Very special memories I will carry with me forever!! It was such a magical experience, a new challenge that took me out of my comfort zone but oh how marvellous it was!!! I treasure the friendships, the love and the laughter that we shared! Thanks to all that helped me with the travels. Grainne was fabulous! Ro, thank you for feeding our souls with poems, history, and words, nurturing us to be more creative in our works of art as well as our lives!
LINDA CLARK
I would just like to say, no words can express the gratitude I have in my heart for you to have been placed in my path, bringing me by the hand down a road of brightness, leaving my darkness behind me, I’m in awe of how much you’ve generously shared with us as an artist, as a poet, as a teacher and as a friend who cares, .. keep painting, definitely keep teaching ( and saving more lost souls in the world).. I will never, never forget what you have done for me and my family ... they are so glad to see me smiling again, even if it means I’ve forgotten to cook some days ☺️
Eileen Collins
Roisin’s ability to communicate and get on the level of each of her students was amazing to me. Roisin came prepared to give and that she did, she knew everyone's name and something personal about each one of her students which made her easy to be with and she put me at ease from the minute I walked in.
Yvonne Snead
At this stage in life I feel differently about myself than I did 10 years ago…even 1 year ago! The questions you asked in your retreat and your intuitive insights gave me lots to think about who I want to be going forward.
I loved every minute of the retreat!
